Plain answers about what this website stores, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible, and nothing about your visit is tied to your name.

laravel_session / XSRF-TOKEN — keeps your visit and forms secure (expires when your session ends)
umugano_consent — remembers your cookie choice and when you made it (12 months)

Analytics cookies are optional and OFF by default. They only run after you choose Accept all or switch analytics on under Manage preferences. Choosing Essential only, dismissing the banner, or a browser Do-Not-Track/privacy signal all mean analytics stays off.

What analytics collects — and what it never collects

If you opt in, we store a random identifier (a visitor id) in your browser. It identifies a browser, never a person. With it we record:

Pages viewed, when, and for how long
How you arrived (referrer / campaign link)
Country — derived on our server from your IP address, after which the IP address is discarded, never stored
Device type, browser, operating system, screen size, language
Actions like viewing a room, starting or sending a booking request

We never collect your name, email, precise location, or anything typed into forms as part of analytics — and analytics data is never linked to bookings, enquiries, or the newsletter. No data is shared with or sold to anyone; there are no third-party trackers on this site.

Retention: detailed visit records are deleted after 90 days; only anonymous daily totals (e.g. "42 visitors on 4 August") are kept longer.

Changing your mind · Guhindura ihitamo

Use “Cookie settings” in the footer of any page to change or withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing stops analytics immediately and deletes the visitor id from your browser.

Bookings & enquiries

When you send a booking request or an enquiry we store what you give us — name, email, phone (optional), dates, cottage type, and your message — solely to answer you and manage your stay. This is kept separate from analytics and is never used for marketing without your explicit consent.

Subscribing is double opt-in: you enter your email with an explicit consent checkbox, then confirm via a link we email you — you are only subscribed after confirming. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link that works without logging in.

Your rights · Uburenganzira bwawe

Under Law N° 058/2021 and the GDPR you may ask us for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, object to its processing, or withdraw consent at any time. Email info@umuganocottages.com and we will act within 30 days. You may also complain to the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA), Rwanda's data-protection supervisory authority.
