From Kigali by private transfer

The smoothest option. Any Kigali tour operator or the airport shuttle desk will arrange a private car and driver. Expect USD 60–100 one-way depending on vehicle. The route is entirely on the sealed Kigali–Kayonza–Rusumo highway — no dirt roads. If you want, we can arrange a trusted driver on your behalf — email us your flight details.

From Kigali by self-drive

Head east from central Kigali on the RN3 (Kigali–Rusumo road). The road is paved the whole way, two-lane, with occasional trucks. Landmarks along the way:

Rental cars: available from Kigali International Airport (Hertz, Europcar) and central Kigali (Rwandan Adventures, Volcano Auto). International driving permit accepted.

From Kigali by public bus

Volcano Express, Ritco, and other operators run Kigali → Kayonza roughly every hour from Nyabugogo bus station. Cost: RWF 2,500–3,500. Journey time: about 2 hours. Get off at Kayonza town centre; we'll collect you (call us on arrival — 5-minute drive to us).

From Kigali International Airport (KGL)

A direct transfer from the airport takes 1h 45m — slightly longer than from central Kigali because of airport road traffic. Arrange either through us or an airport shuttle service. Late-night arrivals are welcome; let us know your ETA and we'll wait up.

Directions questions

Is the road from Kigali to Kayonza safe to drive at night?

It's a busy commercial highway during the day and quieter at night. If possible, arrive before dark — Rwandan roads are safe but lorries and cyclists share the road, and rural sections have no streetlights.

Do you offer airport pickup?

Not directly, but we can coordinate with trusted local drivers. Email us your flight details 48 hours ahead and we'll arrange it.

Is parking on-site?

Yes — secure, gated overnight parking is included with every cottage booking.
